Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania District 7330 ShelterBox Involvement:
The McMurray Rotary Club is proud to be actively supportive of the work of ShelterBox, a Rotary International Global Project, that provides disaster relief around the world for survivors who become homeless or displaced. Our club has a complete ShelterBox available for presentations and educational programs to increase community awareness of the important mission of ShelterBox. One of our Rotary club's members is an area Volunteer ShelterBox Representative.
WHAT IS SHELTERBOX?
ShelterBox is the premier international aid organization that provides shelter and life-saving equipment. We instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict and have delivered aid following over 140 disasters in more than 70 countries. In the last 10 years, ShelterBox has deployed 500,000 ShelterBoxes. With the continued support from past donors and hopefully your additional help and support, ShelterBox will be able to achieve the goal of meeting the needs of 500,000 displaced survivors annually.
A ShelterBox is a BIG GREEN BOX that has become an icon of HOPE where there is despair. Each ShelterBox contains the supplies needed for an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. The contents are tailored depending on the nature and location of the disaster, with great care taken sourcing every item to ensure it is robust enough to be of lasting value. Visit http://www.shelterboxusa.org for more information or click the image below to see what's inside the box.
Our area volunteer ShelterBox representative, Dr. Steve Morreale, is very passionate about this philanthropy and we hope his enthusiasm is highly contagious. We have a full ShelterBox available for display and educational presentations. Steve would love to attend to any event to give a presentation, and - if space permits - to set-up the ShelterBox, and to share with you, our neighbors in the community, and our various social networks more about the good work and mission of ShelterBox. Hopefully by educating ourselves and our neighbors more support will come from our community to provide additional Shelter, Warmth, and Dignity to the survivors of future disasters.
ShelterBox and our Rotary Club rely entirely on donations to make our work possible. When disaster strikes, ShelterBox aims to get aid to the affected areas as fast as possible with specially trained teams of volunteers called the ShelterBox Response Team guiding the response and resources on site to relieve survivors. This means ShelterBox cannot wait for donations to come in during a disaster response but needs to draw immediately from their existing resources stored around the world. We realize people sometimes hear about a disaster in the news and want their donation to go to that particular destination, but by then, ShelterBoxes are often already on the way.
Money raised following one disaster generally ends up being used to replenish stock to be ready for the next emergency - which could be in a completely different part of the world (ShelterBox also responds to many major events that never make the headlines but are just as big a disaster for those affected).
ShelterBox has no political or religious affiliation. Their priority is to deliver shelter to the most needy following a disaster.
ShelterBox USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Rotary International Global Project dedicated to providing shelter, warmth, and comfort to survivors of disaster worldwide. Their organization is supported by individual US citizens and organizations, including Rotary Clubs such as the McMurray Rotary Club, other service and community groups, schools, religious groups, businesses, and small private foundations. All ShelterBoxes are given a unique tracking number permitting donors to know exactly where their support has enabled a ShelterBox to be deployed.

Donations of all types do add-up, even if it is just $10. If ten donors give $10 each we are able to help one person. If one hundred donors give $10 each then an entire ShelterBox ($1,000) can be sent which will help an extended family of 10 people. A small interest and effort can have an exponential and priceless impact. Together we can help provide future disaster relief aid at a moment's notice. Thank you again for your interest and your generosity.
Feel free to contact Dr. Steve Morreale, our volunteer ShelterBox representative, or the McMurray Rotary Club for more information about supporting the ShelterBox mission as a donor or as a ShelterBox volunteer.
